Nepantla Spora

This silk painting was completed using mushroom inks and dyes, for a very special exhibition on the in-between-ness of the dia(spora), Nepantla Spora, curated by the POC Fungi Community at the historic Centro Cultural del la Raza in San Diego. Inspired by a collaboration with Marcela Villa, you see two sisters sitting between life’s branching tree, holding and observing a fruit.  The bandhani on the underground mimics the rhizomorphic patterns of mycelia, and the embroidered silk symbolizes the fabric and thread that connects us all.
